Homemade toys for children from the USSR

As a child of the 80s, I competently assert that Soviet children had few toys. I mean toys from the store ... purchased. Therefore, entertainment and toys were invented by themselves.

There were a lot of dangerous activities. As a result of such games, many of us were injured, some even mutilated. I will not talk about such things now, let's remember more or less peaceful accessories.

1. Slingshot. (I said I won’t write about dangerous ones, but I myself could not resist.) A rather dangerous toy, the result of pampering with which was broken glass, bruises, dead crows, pigeons, sparrows. However, it is unlikely that there will be at least one kid who did not hold this weapon in his hands.

2. Spray bottle . Taking an empty container from under the shampoo and making a hole in the lid with a nail, we got a wonderful weapon for dousing each other. Parents, of course, were not happy - we were wet from head to toe.

3. Darts. Similar to Darts. As a rule, it was done at the lesson, and then, at the break, it was used in full. Everything was the goal: doors, stands, briefcases, classmates, cats.

4. Spitter or spitting. The simplest and relatively safe wind weapon. Made from any tube. The cartridges were chewed paper, viburnum, mountain ash and other items suitable in caliber.

5. Knife . The use of a folding knife is simply endless. But the very first thing is a game of knives on the ground or sand. A circle was drawn and the participants took turns throwing the knife at the ground. Each initially had its own sector. It was necessary to throw in the neighbor's sector. If the knife was stuck into the ground, then a plot of land was cut off from the neighbor along the line of the knife. The one who ran out of land and could not stand on it for 3 seconds lost.

6. Lead. It was used for pouring soldiers and other figurines. The mold was cast in plaster. The source of lead was old batteries or cable armor.

7. Bombs. Water was poured into a plastic bag or into a balloon. Such a bomb was dropped from the upper floors onto the asphalt. It was interesting to fall next to a passerby. Sometimes they hit passers-by 🙁

8. Kinescope or fluorescent lamp. It was considered especially chic to find a kinescope or fluorescent lamp thrown out by someone and smash it. The pop was pretty loud.

9. Capacitors. The first electric shockers. The capacitor was charged from the outlet, and discharged on classmates.

10. Wooden machines. Labor lessons gave their result - all the boys had the skills to work with plumbing and carpentry tools. Many made homemade machine guns and pistols. Here is an example of making such an assault rifle: https://youtu.be/WuWCKKNr1pU

11. Teal on the boot . Matches were the main attribute of our amusements. Therefore, it was fashionable to be able to light matches on your shoe, on which a “chirkashka” from a matchbox was previously glued.

12. Lens. In sunny weather, with the help of such a magnifying glass it was possible to burn on a tree. And even start a fire.

13. Coin on a string. A tool for unlimited calls around the city from a pay phone.

14. Button on a thread . A button was twisted, a thread on the fingers. Bringing and spreading the fingers, the button rotated first in one direction, then in the other. This is something like a modern yo-yo or spinner.

15. Phone from a matchbox . According to this design, it was possible to talk at a distance of 20-30 m, the main thing is that the thread be taut. One person speaks into the box, and the other, at the other end of the thread, listens.

16. Balls with bearing.

The main area of application for balls from a broken bearing is as ammunition for a slingshot or crossbows. The thing is cool, but terribly traumatic
