This method of connecting wires will be of interest to both amateurs and professionals. In terms of the quality of the connection, it is similar to the connection with a sleeve. I have been using it for over 15 years. During this time - no complaints from customers.
This connection was tested on a loading device. The wires with a cross section of 2.5 mm2, connected in this way, were loaded with a current of 30A. After 5 minutes, the heating of the wires and connections is checked. Temperature is the same! The link to the test is at the end of the article.
By increasing the current to 50A, I observed the melting of the wire insulation. The electrical tape on the connection remained, although hot, but intact.
In the people, this method is called "British". So, everything is in order:
We clean the wire. Either with a knife or a special insulation stripper.
The insulation is stripped to the same length from both conductors.
We twist them together and prepare a copper wire with a cross section of 1.5 or 2.5 mm2.
We make a ring at the end of the wire and begin to wind it on our twist in the same direction in which the wires are twisted. At the beginning of the winding, we hold the wire with pliers, and lay the wire on the twist by hand. .
The result is such a bandage. Please note: the contact area is almost the entire surface.
Now we crimp with pliers or platypuses (as in the photo). Note that you need to crimp using the inner working surface - so you can create more effort. Sometimes, when there are no powerful pliers at hand, I just beat with a hammer. In principle, it is even simpler and easier.
Here is such an oval joint profile obtained after crimping.
The minimum connection length is 3cm.
Perhaps some electricians will be outraged that this is a homemade product, the quality of which is in great doubt.
Yes, I have not seen this method in any training or regulatory literature. But, believe me, 15 years of use without a single complaint is a good indicator.
