Spring came. Gardening and building work begins.
For planting tree seedlings, as well as for installing fence posts, you will need a hole drill.
After a cursory "run" through online stores, I found manual pit drills from 450 to 1600 rubles. In general ... not an expensive tool. Buying it will not hit the family budget, but it will significantly save time and effort while drilling holes.
However, if you are not averse to making a hole drill with your own hands and you have all the materials listed below, I will tell you how to do it.
So, for the manufacture of a yamobur, I needed:
The used disc for concrete (for a grinder), I cut it in half.
These two halves of the disk will be the knives of the yamobur.
As you already understood, I welded the disk halves to the edge of the 3/4 inch pipe. You need to cook with potholders. The steel of the disk quickly burns out if you try to make a continuous seam.
The length of the pipe is selected according to your height. The optimal length is from the ground to your elbows or solar plexus.
The angle of inclination of the knives is 20-25 degrees. But in which direction to tilt is also up to you. Do you find it easier to drill by turning the handle clockwise or counterclockwise?
The option shown in the photo assumes clockwise rotation.
Disc coulters have a space where they are not able to loosen the ground. This space is in the center. Therefore, for loosening this area, it is necessary to provide additional smaller knives.
I had a drill with a diameter of 20mm from a perforator, with a broken shank. It’s a pity to throw it away, but I didn’t find any application. This is where he came in handy for me!
Under the disc knives, at the end of the pipe, I welded a 15-centimeter piece of this drill. At the top of the spiral turns of the drill, I welded 5 mm wire - to increase the height of the spiral. If there is no such wire, a 5 mm welding electrode will do.
In practice, this turned out to be not enough, it turned out to be not enough - the yamobur had to be pressed with great effort so that it crashed into the ground.
So I had to add two more knives. I made them from sheet 5 mm steel. I cut out two triangles and welded them in the middle of the drill at an angle of 40-45 degrees.
Thanks to this measure, the hole drill began to drill itself into the ground. Now I do not need to put pressure on him with all my weight! I just rotate the drill with the handles, and throw the earth to the side every 2-3 turns.
By the way, pay attention to the first photo of this article - I made only 2 turns from the moment the disk knives touched the ground.
Now about the length of the arms.
I first welded a 1/2 inch pipe. I thought - the more, the easier it will be to rotate.
But the effect turned out to be the opposite - it was very inconvenient to work with such a handle !!! Several times I shortened it until I achieved optimal comfort - 30 cm on each side.
With this unsightly hole drill, last year I made 16 holes for fence posts and 5 holes for planting tree seedlings.
