How to increase the pressure in the water supply

This article is dedicated to those readers who have regular problems with water supply.

I will describe to you my problem, the solution of which I found. If something is useful to you, then it’s not in vain that I spent time writing this article.

So what do we have:

A private house. Near the house there is a well with a depth of 1.5 m, in which a water meter is located. A pipe with a tap was brought out of the well for all kinds of household needs.

Water supply is irregular - in the morning 3 hours and in the evening 3 hours. And in the summer, so in general ... F ...

Moreover, when water does flow, the pressure is so low that water does not “knock out” into the house, and water barely flows in the tap on the street.

To ensure a decent water supply to the house, I had to purchase a pressure booster pump . I installed it in the well right behind the counter. But I ran into an unexpected problem:

If the pressure in the water supply is more or less good and there is water in the tap on the street, turning on the pump guarantees the flow of water into the house.

But! When the pressure is so low that the water in the tap on the street flows in a stream as thick as a match, turning on the pump led to the rapid pumping of water from the pipe. A pump from somewhere in the line drew air and ... began to thresh dry. I had to turn it off, wait for the pipeline to fill up with water again, bleed air along the way ... and turn it on again.

It became clear that the productivity of 1.5 cubic meters per hour is too much for my case. It was necessary to limit this parameter somehow.

The solution is shown in this diagram:

At first I tried to limit the performance with tap #2. But the pump began to work angrily and after a while it still grabbed air.

Then I put another tap (No. 1) - parallel to the pump. The faucet is about 30% open. Part of the pumped water goes into the house, and part returns to the suction again. Thus, the performance of the pump decreased and he was able to safely pump water into the house. There I have a 500l tank, which is filled in this way. From this tank, a pumping station with a hydraulic accumulator is fed, and then the entire water supply network of the house.

The degree of opening of the tap No. 1 is selected using the following technique:

- the plumbing must be filled with water;

- when opening a tap located near the pump, it is enough that the trickle is at least as thick as a match;

- fully open all the taps (No. 1, No. 2, and the tap in the house)

- turn on the pump ... water moves in a small circle through tap No. 1;

- gradually close tap No. 1 and listen to the operation of the pump - as soon as it picks up water, its sound will change;

- now you can make sure that water enters the house;

- close the tap by another 10 percent and leave it in this position forever.

Now, no matter what the pressure in the street pipe, the pump will always be able to pump water into my tank located in the house. Moreover, water will be able to enter the house even when the pump is not working through the ajar tap and the pump itself, if there is “good” pressure in the main pipe.

  1. The idea is good, if a person thought of it himself, but in general, bypass valves, if necessary, have been used for centuries in boiler rooms, in boiler rooms, where there are pumps.
